Statistical Process Control (SPC) according to AIAG-VDA – Practitioner (ID 402)

This training course covers the basics and the practical application of the harmonized AIAG-VDA SPC methodology for production processes in the automotive industry. You will learn how to effectively establish SPC as a preventive approach to process control, launch it robustly, and integrate it permanently in everyday production – from the prerequisites for SPC through machine performance, preliminary process performance and process capability up to control charts, action plans, reporting and traceability. The focus is not on sorting out defective parts afterwards, but on understanding, controlling and improving processes early on.

  • You are familiar with the general requirements and principles of the harmonized AIAG-VDA SPC Manual.
  • You can assess whether and in what form SPC is appropriate and applicable.
  • You can evaluate the prerequisites for SPC, in particular clear (product) specifications, proof of suitability of measurement and inspection processes, characteristic classification, process understanding, control loops, roles and responsibilities.
  • You can differentiate between machine performance, process performance and process capability studies, and plan or evaluate suitable studies.
  • You can collect data appropriately, ensure traceability and handle outliers correctly.
  • You can select suitable control charts, validate them and set them up for ongoing shop floor use.
  • You can define Out of Control Action Plans (OCAP), evaluate signals correctly, and classify results in the context of control plans, reporting and audits.

Short theoretical segments alternate with practice-oriented exercises, case studies and structured reviews. The content is presented in a step-by-step manner; participants work independently on typical SPC scenarios from their daily work and receive expert feedback after each exercise.
A comprehensive case study helps participants apply what they have learned to their own work practices.

  • Employees from quality management, production, industrial engineering and production planning departments who are responsible for implementing, applying, monitoring or further developing SPC within their own organization.
  • Process/quality engineers, industrial/manufacturing engineers, those responsible for production control and control plans, as well as employees from measurement/inspection planning and production with operational SPC responsibilities.

A basic understanding of manufacturing processes, as well as basic knowledge of measurement and inspection processes and statistics, is recommended.

After passing the knowledge test (Single-Choice-Test), you will receive a certificate of qualification.
