The Automotive Industry Quality Management System Standard, IATF 16949 (First Edition) was published in October 2016 and became effective as of 1 January 2017. A so-called Sanctioned Interpretation (SI) alters the interpretation of a rule or requirement and thereby becomes the basis for a deviation.

The current Sanctioned Interpretations have been approved and published by the IATF. Unless otherwise stated, these Sanctioned Interpretations are effective from the date of their respective publication.
